Charlotte's Legendary Lobster Pound: Tale of the "Baked" Lobster

A new innovative way to use THC

So let's be honest, lobster is delicious! However, unlike most seafood, it is delicious in part, because of how fresh it is at the point of cooking. For those unaware, they dump the lobsters alive into boiling water. At which point, they quickly stop being alive. This seemed like a terribly painful way to go for one Charlotte Gill of Charlotte's Legendary Lobster Pound. So she has started trying a new methodology for sending these crustaceans off into the great beyond and also our stomachs. She does it by getting them high first.

In a story first reported in the Portland Press Herald Charlotte Gill describes how she gives them the proper send off.

"In her experiment, Gill placed Roscoe in a covered box with about two inches of water at the bottom. Marijuana smoke was then blown into the water.

Gill's hypothesis is that the pot sedates the lobsters, making their deaths less traumatic.

"I feel bad that when lobsters come here there is no exit strategy," said Gill, who has owned Charlotte's Legendary Lobster Pound for seven years. "It's a unique place and you get to do such unique things but at the expense of this little creature. I've really been trying to figure out how to make it better."

Following the experiment, Roscoe's claw bands were removed for nearly three weeks while he remained in the pound's tank.

His mood seemed to have an impact on the other lobsters in the tank, she said, and he never again wielded his claws as weapons. Earlier this week, Roscoe was returned to the ocean as a thank you for being the experimental crustacean."

Now to be clear future crustaceans will not be returned to the ocean. They will be consumed. Now before you start thinking this is an innovative way to consume THC you would be wrong. As the Washington Post pointed out, "THC breaks down completely by 392 degrees, therefore we will use both steam as well as a heat process that will expose the meat to 420-degree extended temperature, in order to ensure there is no possibility of carry-over effect,". Now you could it seems share a joint with a lobster and then eat the lobster. Which seems like a story that would come out of doing a much harder drug than cannabis but still, you could do it!

We will keep bringing you innovative ways to use THC but for now just think you can roll a joint and enjoy a Lobster roll. Yes, I looked and there is indeed an entire Reddit thread devoted to Lobster puns. Thank you internet!
